"Silchar Residents (Chittaranjan Road) Boycott Voting Due to Drainage Woes"

Silchar goes to the polls today, and by 9:00 am, 5% of voters have already cast their votes, but residents of Chittaranjan Road in Silchar's NS Avenue are abstaining from voting due to ongoing drainage issues.

Residents, numbering about 120, are boycotting the election as much of their lane remains flooded with dirty drain water. Even a brief rainfall inundates their courtyards, causing the contaminated water to enter their reservoirs, creating a challenging living environment. Despite previous complaints and assurances from MLA Dipayan Chakraborty to resolve the issue six months ago, the problem persists.

"We women have to lift our sarees above our knees to navigate the water, which is demeaning and shameful. But our concerns and troubles have been ignored for years," said a female resident. The Longai Khal is reportedly clogged, exacerbating the flooding issue for residents of the lane.
